Senior BJP leader Dr Subramanian Swamy’s contention that there is more than meets the ordinary eyes in the assassination of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and the killing of Velupillai Prabhakaran, the chief of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), got strengthened last week by some of the startling disclosures made in New Delhi.

The first revelation came out from the Mahinda Rajapaksa, the former President of Sri Lanka, who led the island nation in the annihilation of the LTTE, which was synonymous with the murders, mayhem, and pogrom witnessed by the beautiful country during the 1980s, 1990s and the 2000s. Sri Lanka, which had earned the sobriquet of Emerald Island, was degenerated by the LTTE into a “teardrop” of Indian Ocean.

“We had a mechanism during the war [against the LTTE in 2009] called the Troika, where three officials from both sides (India and Sri Lanka ) were able to discuss any issue, even in the middle of the night,” said Rajapaksa. Though the former President did not disclose the names of the officials, people in the know of things at that time pointed out that Shiv Shankar Menon (the then foreign secretary), M K Narayanan (the then National Security Advisor) and Nirupama Menon Rao (the then Indian Ambassador to China who was an authority on Sri Lanka issues) were the experts which constituted the Indian side of the Troika.
In his address to the VHS conference as well as interviews to some of the Indian newspapers, Rajapaksa made it clear that the final phase of the May 2009 civil war was fought by the island nation in close association with the Indian experts. “There was mutual cooperation between India and Sri Lanka those days,” the former President had said.
After the departure of Rajapaksa to Sri Lanka following a dinner meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, came the real thunderbolt. Dr Swamy, in a tweet, revealed that the then home minister P Chidambaram had sent a message to V Prabhakaran stating that India would dispatch a ship of the Indian Navy to save the beleaguered LTTE chief from the Kilinochchi area. “At the behest of TDK, PC sent a message in 2009 during final battle, to Chief Eli Prabhakaran to await Indian Navy to come to rescue him. Navy did come it but it was of Sri Lanka. Chief Eli then walked out of the jungle into the beach thinking it was India’s. Hence was killed,” Dr. Swamy said in his tweet.
“During the Supreme Court hearing of the Appeal against the TADA Court capital punishment verdict against the LTTE conspirators like Nalini etc., PC as a Minister in the Narasimha Rao and Gowda governments was monitoring the case while sleeping with a Tamil Nadu journalist, who was the LTTE resident liaison in India”, quipped Dr. Swamy. PC himself admitted to have met Prabhakaran in 1984 when he was in Chennai.
The TDK mentioned in the tweet is none other than Sonia Gandhi, whom the BJP leader addresses as TDK in reverence. PC is the one and only P Chidambaram, the then home minister of India. Chief Eli is Prabhakaran whom the BJP leader taunts as Eli (rat).
Project Save Prabhakaran

Gasper has been on the radar of the CIA as well as the Interpol which had issued a red corner notice against him. But the Roman Catholic priest was holed up in Chennai’s CIT Colony residence of a powerful politician in Tamil Nadu. Still, the courier vicar succeeded in transporting the letter to Prabhakaran through Nadesan, head of LTTE’s political wing.
According to Dr Swamy, the Indian Navy ship which was expected to reach the theatre of war did not leave Indian shores because of stiff opposition from the highest authorities.
On reading the letter, Prabhakaran consulted his India friend Y Gopalaswamy (Vaiko) about the course of action to be taken with regard to the offer made by Chidambaram and his madam. In a communication through a satellite telephone, Vaiko is believed to have told Prabhakaran not to trust the Sonia-Chidambaram axis as it would finish him off. The letter by Chidambaram had stated that a ship belonging to the Indian Navy would pick him up from northern Sri Lanka and take him to Malaysia where Prabhakaran could rebuild and rejuvenate the LTTE.
“But there were patriotic elements in the Indian side too. They ensured that the Indian Naval ship did not leave the Indian shores. It was a Sri Lankan Naval ship which sailed along the shore of the Tiger Country in northern Sri Lanka. The Tiger Chief, under the belief that it was the Indian Navy Ship coming to lift him from the rat trap, ran into the ship in his battle fatigues. The Sri Lankan commandoes waiting at the bridge of the ship shot him point blank and thus ended the story of Prabhakaran who was responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent lives in Sri Lanka and India,” said Dr. Swamy.
According to Dr Swamy, the Indian Navy ship which was expected to reach the theatre of war did not leave Indian shores because of stiff opposition from the highest authorities. “Prabhakaran could not be informed by the Congress leadership about the change of plan,” said Swamy.
Meanwhile, Prabhakaran committed the cardinal sin of speaking to Vaiko over a satellite telephone from his hide-out on Northern Sri Lanka. This happened during the funeral of Muthukumaran, a Chennai based LTTE supporter who had committed suicide in the last week of January 2009[1].

Vaiko had read out a statement issued by the LTTE and signed by B Nadesan, the political wing head of the Tigers. But the late Karunanidhi, the then chief minister of Tamil Nadu had declared that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress chief Sonia Gandhi had assured him that the operation by the Sri Lankan Army was only to nab LTTE chief Prabhakaran and India had no role in the military operations.
At the peak of the civil war in May 2009, Karunanidhi in the company of his two wives Dayalu and Rajathi had staged a “two-hour-long fast” at Marina Beach questioning the then union government’s complicity in the civil war in Sri Lanka and had called it off following assurances from the Centre that it had no role in the military operations. The LTTE had used innocent Tamils as human shields to save the LTTE chief Prabhakaran and his henchmen from the Sri Lankan army, reported The Telegraph of UK[3].

ne of the escort vehicles of President Pranab Mukherjee’s convoy met with an accident on the way to Bagdogra Airport from Darjeeling hills on Friday. One of cars carrying six security personnel lost control and strayed off from the hill road and went several meters down a deep gorge.
