Yes, RSS and Swamy are right on the same DNA but, what purpose does it serve? – let us examine through the walks of a bloody history.

The DNA theory

Recently, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat made a statement that raised a lot of eyebrows, he said “ It has been proven that we’re the descendants of the same ancestors from the last 40,000 years. People of India have the same DNA.“

Bhagwat also mentioned in the same event that “the concept of Hindu-Muslim unity is misleading because there is nothing to unite as differences don’t exist in the first place” – this is the statement which tries to set aside stark differences and also tries to brush under the carpet horrendous crimes that have occurred due to the conflict between the 2 faiths for over six centuries.[1]

Be it, Dr. Swamy or Mr. Bhagwat, The basis of their argument stems from two research papers published in the journal Human Genetics in the year 2009 titled:

1. “Diverse genetic origin of Indian Muslims: evidence from autosomal STR loci.“[2]
2. “The Indian origin of paternal haplogroup R1a1* substantiates the autochthonous origin of Brahmins and the caste system.“[3]

These research papers are highly technical for any ordinary human to comprehend, but the conclusion from these papers is in line with what Dr. Swamy or Mr. Bhagwat have mentioned. The only difference between Dr. Swamy and Mr. Bhagwat is that along with the same theory Dr. Swamy has appealed that Muslims should proudly acknowledge their Hindu ancestry.

If we have to take the statement of Mr. Bhagwat at face value, then the Shankaracharya of Kanchi and the Maulana of Deoband society have no differences as per the DNA theory. A generic statement such as this would encompass extremes into one lot which will only further the agenda of confusion amongst the Hindu society.

Though DNA theory is a modern approach, it has a historical root that has tried to bring a similar frame of reference with an underlying “communal harmony” through fraternity and brotherhood.

One such instance is the cooptation of Islamic Arab merchants who settled on the coast of Kerala into the Kerala Hindu society. These people came in as spice traders in the 6th and 7th Century AD and settled in the northern coast of Kerala (very often called as Malabar Coast).

They were called Moplahs or Mappilas (Mappila in Malayalam means Son-in-law or bridegroom) by the native Hindu population and since the native people were married to them they were addressed by that name.

This is the first instance of an inclusive approach recorded between Hindus and Muslims in history. The large-hearted Hindu considered a foreigner who came for trade as part of his extended family.

This centuries-old cooptation and inclusive approach resulted in a disaster in the medieval period and during the 1920s[4]. Just because the British, which was ruling India, was against the Khilafat (Caliphate) movement a total minority of Moplahs did a thorough anti-Hindu riot in Kerala.

10000+ Hindus were either murdered or forcibly converted or displaced despite not one Hindu even distantly associated against the Khilafat movement. The ‘same DNA‘ son-in-laws turned against their blood.

To quote Dr. B R Ambedkar on these riots: “ The Hindus were visited by a dire fate at the hands of the Moplas. Massacres, forcible conversions, desecration of temples, foul outrages upon women, such as ripping open pregnant women, pillage, arson, and destruction — in short, all the accompaniments of brutal and unrestrained barbarism, were perpetrated freely by the Moplas upon the Hindus until such time as troops could be hurried to the task of restoring order through a difficult and extensive tract of the country.”

This incident proved that no matter how much ever cooptation and inclusivity Hindus show their allegiance is always to faith and nothing apart from that.

Kashmir also faced a similar situation in the past. During the 12th and 14th Centuries, the native Kashmiri Brahmins or Bhatts (commonly called Kashmiri Pandits) were ruling and administering the valley of Kashmir. Their biggest fault was to give Jagirs to the Islamic missionaries who visited them during the reign of Suhadeva.[5]

One such person who was made a Minister was Shah Mir, the person who later established the Mir dynasty of Kashmir unleashing a full-scale Jihad on the Hindus.

King Suhadeva was ruling the Kingdom of Kashmir his Prime Minister was Ramachandra and along with him were 2 other ministers Rinchan and Shah Mir. Rinchan was a Buddhist based out of Ladakh and Shah was an ordinary Islamic missionary from the Swat Valley (part of the Kingdom of Kashmir). During his reign, Shah Mir was able to convert Rinchan to Islam and Rinchan adopted the name, Sadruddin Shah.

When the Mongols invaded Kashmir in 1320, it dealt a fatal blow to the Hindu Kingdom of Kashmir, the King Suhadeva himself had to run for his life taking refuge in Tibet. Before moving out he handed over the administration to Prime Minister Ramachandra.[6]

Rinchan who was a recent convert was persuaded by Shah Mir to do a coup and it resulted in Rinchan killing Ramachandra and taking over the administration. This was the first instance of an Islamic ruler taking over the throne of Kashmir.

After the coup, the daughter of Ramachandra, Kota Rani, a master diplomat queen did everything to save the Hindu Kingdom of Kashmir. She married King Rinchan (Sadruddin Shah) and ensured that the fanaticism of Shah Mir doesn’t perpetuate by appointing Bhatta Bhikshana as the Prime Minister to King Rinchan.

Rinchan died an untimely death in 1323, just three years after the ascend but from 1323 to 1339 Kota Rani was able to administer the Kingdom of Kashmir successfully but the coup of 1339, once again by Shah Mir proved to be fatal.

The Prime Minister of Kashmir, Bhatta Bhikshana, was killed by a pretending to be sick Shah Mir thus paving way for Shah Mir’s ascend. Both the sons of Kota Rani were killed by him and the queen made a valiant sacrifice of her life in the end.

With the start of the Shah Mir dynasty, a bloody saga of Islamic rule started in Kashmir. The first exodus of Kashmiri Pandits began during his reign. Those who resisted were either forcefully converted or killed.[7][7a]

We see today a complete contrast to what Kalhana had written about Kashmir in Rajatharangini. The land which was filled with the Pandits and temples today bears the ruins of destruction. There is not ONE temple in the valley which is intact and untouched by the sword of Islam.

The lesson that we learn(and also need to) from both Kashmir and Kerala is that the brotherhood of Islam takes precedence over everything and the caveat is that the brotherhood of Islam is exclusive only to Muslims and it is not inclusive to others.

To quote Jinnah “The Hindus and Muslims belong to two different religious philosophies, social customs, and literature. They neither intermarry nor interdine together, and indeed they belong to two different civilizations which are based mainly on conflicting ideas and conceptions. Their aspects of life, and of life, are different. It is quite clear that Hindus and Mussalmans derive their inspiration from different sources of history. They have different epics, their heroes are different and different episodes. Very often the hero of one is a foe of the other, and likewise, their victories and defeats overlap. To yoke together two such nations under a single state, one as a numerical minority and the other as a majority must lead to growing discontent, and final destruction of any fabric that may be so built up for the government of such a state.”

Whichever way Hindus treat them, be it as Bridegroom or as Minister, the psyche of Muslims remains the same that they will consider that as a valid treatment only if the one who treats them are also Muslims. The historical roots of brotherhood in simple terms is a one-way street.

Even in a modern democracy, we see that the brotherhood of Islam taking precedence, the best example is the Partition of India and direct action day where scores of Hindus were killed in Calcutta. When these things took place there was no thought of Hindu ancestry, communal harmony, etc.

The psychology of Muslims and the teachings of Islam are clear but it is the Hindus who have the confusion because of the ignorance of history propelled by low self-esteem thus feeling the need to be validated.

Looking from the lens of communal harmony the DNA theory serves nothing, however, the same DNA theory will help in organizing the Hindu faith as every community has faced an onslaught due to the covert and deceitful brotherhood invitations.

The DNA theory will work only if the words and actions of other faith or communities work in tandem like in the case of the Parsis or the Buddhists or even the Koreans.

Not many know that close to 21% of the Korean population has Hindu ancestry. The Kim Hae Clan of Korea which comprises over 10 million people stems from the roots of King Suro of Gaya and Princess Sriratna of Ayodhya (who later became Queen Hwang–ok).[8]

The emblem of the Kim Hae clan is the same as that of the Ayodhya royal family and even the UP government’s logo[8a][8b]. The Koreans have proudly acknowledged their Hindu ancestry, every year hundreds of Koreans pay a visit to Ayodhya (their maternal ancestry). Even recently, the first lady of Korea had visited Ayodhya to celebrate the Deepavali festival.[9]

In the case of Koreans, none from RSS or Dr. Swamy asked them to relook at their ancestral roots, it blossomed from their end and it took an organic shape by itself by them acknowledging it voluntarily and hundreds taking active participation in it.

Only when an organic self-introspection takes place we will see a civilizational unity that surpasses religious identity until then it will only result in confusion and compromise on security, especially among the Hindu society.

In conclusion, the DNA theory if used to bridge communal harmony it will result in supplying fodder for the future secularists and leftists who would not hesitate to whitewash an invasion and religious genocide of over 600 years as a “family feud”. It is worthless on this aspect because it’s a failed experiment resulting in countless loss of lives of the Hindus. The DNA theory should be used to organize and unify every section of the current Hindu society to bring about oneness not just in blood but also in the psyche.
