Enforcement Directorate issues summons to NCP MLA Rohit Pawar for questioning
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and grandnephew of Sharad Pawar, Rohit Pawar, for questioning on January 24 as part of its money laundering probe into the alleged Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank (MSCB) scam, official sources said Friday.
Rohit Pawar has been asked to appear at the agency’s Ballard Pier office in south Mumbai on Wednesday.
Pawar is a first-time NCP MLA from the Karjat-Jamkhed seat in the Maharashtra Assembly and is the owner and CEO of Baramati Agro.
Earlier, the ED had raided the premises of Baramati Agro, a company owned by Rohit Pawar, and some linked entities on January 5 in Baramati, Pune, Aurangabad, and some other locations.
Rohit Pawar was issued a fresh summons on Friday by the ED in the alleged multi-crore Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank scam.
Earlier this month, the federal agency conducted searches at six locations in connection with its probe into an alleged money laundering case connected to the fraud caused to MSC Bank.
The ED is probing the sale of the Kannad SSK mill to Baramati Agro. The ED also raided the premises of two other companies, Hitech Engineering Corporation India Ltd and Samruddhi Sugar who participated in the auction.
Notably, it is the first time since the commencement of ED’s probe, that the agency has summoned Rohit Pawar in the said matter.
Both Mumbai Police and the ED probed the role of over 70 politicians including 50 from NCP, nine from Congress, two from Shiv Sena, and one from BJP, back in the first week of January.
