Truth Social, the social media platform founded by US President Donald Trump, announced on Tuesday that it will soon allow users to place bets on real-world events, expanding its operations into the booming prediction market sector.

According to Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG), the company behind Truth Social, users will be able to wager on a wide range of topics — from elections, inflation rates, and commodity prices like gold and crude oil, to sporting and entertainment events. The betting feature will be powered through a partnership with Crypto.com.

Unlike traditional gambling, prediction markets are regulated by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) rather than state gambling authorities. These platforms allow users to buy contracts that pay out if a specific event occurs — such as a political victory, a change in interest rates, or a sports team’s win.

The sector has recently attracted major financial interest. Earlier this month, Intercontinental Exchange — the operator of the New York Stock Exchange — invested $2 billion in Polymarket, one of the leading prediction platforms.

While popular among young adults, prediction markets have also drawn scrutiny over concerns about addiction and financial risk.

TMTG has been working to diversify its business through cryptocurrency-based financial products and a video streaming service. However, according to filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the company reported only $1.7 million in revenue and a $51.7 million net loss during the first half of 2025.
