Red Fort car blast: Suicide bomber linked to Al Falah University, accomplice held
In a significant development in the investigation into the deadly car bomb explosion near Delhi’s historic Red Fort, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested a Kashmiri resident accused of conspiring with the suicide bomber responsible for the attack that killed 14 people and injured 20 others.
Amir Rashid Ali, a resident of Samboora in Pampore, Jammu and Kashmir, was taken into custody from Delhi following an intensive search operation launched by the NIA after it assumed control of the case from the Delhi Police. The vehicle used in the blast, a car registered in Ali’s name, was purchased with his direct involvement to serve as the delivery mechanism for the improvised explosive device (IED).
NIA sleuths have forensically confirmed the identity of the deceased driver as Umar Un Nabi, a resident of Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir. Un Nabi, who was employed as an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana, is believed to have been the suicide bomber who detonated the vehicle-borne IED on November 10, 2025.
Investigators revealed that Ali travelled to Delhi specifically to facilitate the car’s acquisition, which was later rigged with explosives. “The accused conspired with Umar Un Nabi to execute this heinous act of terror,” an NIA spokesperson stated in a press statement issued on Sunday evening.
In a related development, the agency has seized another vehicle owned by Umar un Nabi. Forensic teams are scrutinizing the automobile for potential traces of explosives, communication devices, or other incriminating evidence that could shed light on the planning and execution of the attack.
To date, the NIA has recorded statements from 73 witnesses, including survivors of the blast who provided crucial accounts of the chaos that unfolded in the bustling Red Fort area during peak tourist hours.
The investigation, registered under case RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI, is being conducted in close collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Delhi Police, Jammu & Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, and other intelligence units. Raids and interrogations are underway across several states as the NIA pursues leads to dismantle what officials describe as a “larger conspiracy” involving additional accomplices.”
