Political uproar over Kunal Kamra’s T-shirt

Comedian Kunal Kamra triggered a fresh political storm after he shared a photo on social media wearing a T-shirt that appeared to mock the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The post, widely criticised as derogatory and provocative, drew sharp reactions from BJP leaders, who warned of strict police action.

Maharashtra minister and senior BJP leader Chandrashekhar Bawankule condemned Kamra’s act, calling it “objectionable” and “deliberately insulting.” He said the police would not hesitate to act against anyone posting such content online, making it clear that Kamra’s latest stunt would not go unchecked.

Shiv Sena minister and BJP ally Sanjay Shirsat also lashed out at the comedian, accusing him of repeatedly targeting national leaders and now crossing a line by insulting the RSS. “Earlier, he targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Eknath Shinde. Now he has dared to attack the RSS. This cannot be tolerated,” Shirsat said.

Kamra has been involved in multiple controversies in the past, including mocking Eknath Shinde in March, which led Shiv Sena supporters to vandalise the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai. His latest post has reignited demands for firm action, with BJP leaders calling his behaviour “habitually provocative” and “intended to create unrest.”

Even as outrage mounted, Kamra remained defiant, claiming that the photograph wasn’t taken at a comedy club. However, BJP leaders have dismissed his explanation, saying it doesn’t reduce the seriousness of the insult.

The incident has once again put the spotlight on Kamra’s history of inflammatory remarks, with political leaders demanding accountability for what they describe as a pattern of deliberate provocation.
