Dilip cleared of all charges in high-profile kidnap and rape case
Dilip, the superstar of Malayalam films, was acquitted of all charges in the kidnapping and rape case of a popular film actress in 2017. Honry Vsrghese, Ernskulsm Principal Sessions Judge, said in her verdict on Monday that the prosecution has failed to substantiate the allegations against Dilip in the kidnap and rape case, and hence he was acquitted of all charges.
Suni, known more by the name Pulsar Suni, a petty thief specialized in stealing motor bikes branded Pulsar, and five others, who were the first six accused, were found to be guilty of all charges, ranging from criminal conspiracy, kidnap, rape, and destruction of evidence.
The scenes of rape were filmed and distributed through social media as well as pen drives by the first accused and his associates. The Prosecution’s case was that Dilip, whose real name is P Gopalakrishnan, entrusted the task of kidnapping, rape, and filming of the act to his friend Suni as an act of personal revenge, as he had a score to settle with the victim.
The incident occurred in February 2017, while the trial took more than eight years. The quantum of punishment for the accused would be delivered on 12th December, while the prosecution lawyers said that they would prefer an appeal after studying the verdict delivered by Judge Honey Varghese.
Though many prosecution witnesses turned hostile during the trial despite their declaration that they stood with the victim, only a select few personalities remained true to their words. Manju Warrier, the former superstar and former wife of Dilip, remained steadfast in her support of the victim.
“This was a conspiracy hatched by some criminal elements in Kerala Police who wanted to finish me off and destroy my profession. But God is great, and thanks to the good works of my lawyers and the prayers of my fans, I am innocent,” said Dilip while coming out of the Court.
