Unreleased book attributed to Gen Naravane triggers Delhi Police FIR

The Delhi Police has registered a First Information Report (FIR) over the circulation of an unpublished book attributed to former Chief of the Army Staff, General M M Naravane, after reports emerged that a pre-print version was being shared online.

According to officials, the police took cognisance of information circulating on social media platforms and online news forums, which claimed that a pre-print copy of the book titled Four Stars of Destiny was in circulation, despite the publication reportedly not having received the mandatory clearance from the relevant authorities.

    PDF version found on websites

During verification, police found that a PDF version of a typeset book bearing the same title was available on certain websites. The document appeared to have been prepared by Penguin Random House India Pvt Ltd, officials said.

In addition, some online marketing platforms were found to be displaying the book’s finished cover, suggesting that the publication was available for sale, even though no official release had been announced.

Special Cell to probe alleged leak

In view of the seriousness of the matter and the sensitivity associated with publications by former senior military officials, the Delhi Police registered a case with its Special Cell to conduct a detailed investigation into the alleged leak of the yet-to-be-approved book.

Officials said the probe will examine the source of the leaked material, the authenticity of the circulating copies, and whether any legal or security protocols were violated.

Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses.
