Telangana High Court grants one-week relief, asks Congress leader to approach Assam court

The Telangana High Court has granted one-week transit anticipatory bail to Pawan Khera in connection with an FIR filed by Assam Police over his remarks about Himanta Biswa Sarma and his family.

Justice K Sujana said the court could provide limited protection despite the FIR being registered in another state, noting that Khera had a reasonable apprehension of arrest following police action at his Delhi residence.

    Relief temporary, conditions imposed

The court clarified that the relief is temporary and allows Khera seven days to approach a competent court in Assam for regular anticipatory bail.

He has been directed to furnish a personal bond of ₹1 lakh, cooperate with the investigation, and appear for questioning when required. The court also barred him from influencing witnesses, tampering with evidence, or leaving the country without permission.

Case stems from April 4 remarks

The FIR was filed after Khera, during a press conference, made allegations regarding the Assam Chief Minister’s wife, including claims about multiple passports and alleged illegal activities.

    Court urges restraint

While granting relief, the court advised Khera, “being a public figure”, to exercise restraint and avoid further public comments that could affect the investigation. It also clarified that the merits of the case would be decided by the appropriate court in Assam.
