DMK’s mouthpiece Murasoli has sharply criticised Tamil Nadu CM Vijay over actor Trisha Krishnan’s front-row presence at the I-Day celebrations

A fresh political controversy has erupted in Tamil Nadu after the DMK’s official mouthpiece Murasoli launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister and actor Vijay over actor Trisha Krishnan’s presence at the state’s Independence Day celebrations.

Trisha attended the August 15 ceremony at Fort St George in Chennai, where Vijay hoisted the national flag for the first time as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. She was seated in the front row alongside Vijay’s parents. Videos from the event showing Trisha saluting Vijay during the official proceedings subsequently went viral on social media.

The DMK editorial questioned both Trisha’s seating arrangement and the exchange of salutes between the two actors-turned-public figures, arguing that the conduct was inappropriate for a formal government ceremony.

    DMK mouthpiece launches scathing attack

In its strongly worded editorial, Murasoli questioned whether Vijay had considered the dignity attached to the office of Chief Minister while allowing an actor to occupy a prominent seat during the official function.

The editorial described the episode as a “shameful spectacle” and questioned whether Vijay had no sense of embarrassment over the scene. It also accused him of believing that such conduct could be justified simply because it was done openly.

The criticism comes against the backdrop of continuing political friction between the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) led by Vijay and the DMK.

Why Trisha’s presence has sparked attention

Trisha’s appearance attracted considerable attention even before the DMK attack. She was seated alongside Vijay’s parents during the ceremony and was seen saluting the Chief Minister as he carried out his official duties.

The interaction itself was widely circulated online, with another video showing Trisha waving goodbye to Vijay as he left the venue.

Her presence has also drawn scrutiny because she had earlier attended Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony in May, where she was seen alongside his family. Her repeated presence at high-profile official occasions has fuelled public curiosity and speculation about their relationship.

    Political fight intensifies

The latest attack comes days after DMK leader and former Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin faced criticism over remarks concerning Vijay and Trisha.

The Murasoli editorial has now taken the dispute a step further by questioning Vijay’s conduct as Chief Minister rather than focusing merely on his personal life.

The episode highlights the increasingly bitter political contest between the DMK and Vijay’s TVK, with the actor-turned-politician emerging as a major challenger in Tamil Nadu politics.

For Vijay, the controversy comes as his government faces growing scrutiny over both its political decisions and the public image of the Chief Minister. For the DMK, the attack provides another opportunity to question whether Vijay is maintaining the decorum expected of the state’s highest elected office.
