NCB tracks cartel mastermind to Leh after intercepting heroin consignment in Jammu

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has busted a cross-border heroin trafficking cartel in Jammu and Kashmir, seizing 5.16 kg of high-grade heroin worth crores of rupees and arresting three people, including the mastermind of the network.

Acting on specific intelligence, NCB officials intercepted a vehicle at Panjirthi in Jammu on August 22 and recovered the heroin from two residents of Baramulla. During questioning, the two allegedly revealed details about the person who had supplied the consignment. The NCB subsequently tracked down the suspected mastermind, who was hiding in Leh, and arrested him within 48 hours.

The agency said the investigation is now focused on tracing the cartel’s cross-border suppliers, financial links, transporters, local associates and distribution network. The latest seizure comes after two other heroin recoveries by NCB Jammu earlier this month — 438 grams on August 12 and 603 grams on August 13 — highlighting intensified anti-narcotics operations in the region.
