Police examine CCTV footage as attackers remain unidentified after fatal shooting
Haryanvi singer and YouTuber Ankit Balyan was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside a gym in Uttar Pradesh’s Shamli district on Wednesday evening, police said. The attackers opened several rounds of fire at Balyan as he was leaving the gym in the Kotwali area. He died on the spot.
According to police, the assailants arrived on two motorcycles and fled after the attack. Police teams have been formed to identify and arrest those responsible, while CCTV footage from the area is being examined. The motive behind the killing has not yet been established.
Balyan, 32, had built a following of more than 3.66 lakh subscribers on YouTube and was known for his Haryanvi music and videos. He had also featured in podcasts and videos involving political commentary. There was speculation that he was considering contesting the upcoming panchayat elections, but authorities have not confirmed whether this had any connection to the killing.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav condemned the killing and alleged that the incident reflected a deterioration in Uttar Pradesh’s law-and-order situation. He also said that the possibility of political rivalry should be examined.
