Kanpur training aircraft crash: Both pilots killed near Ganga Barrage
A twin-engine, four-seater training aircraft crashed in a field near the Ganga Barrage area in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur on Thursday, killing both pilots on board. The deceased were an instructor pilot and a trainee pilot, police said.
The aircraft, bearing registration VT-NBV, crashed near Natthupurwa village, with the impact leaving the plane badly mangled and debris scattered across the field. Police and rescue personnel reached the spot soon after the accident and cordoned off the area.
The aircraft is operated by Garg Aviation, which runs a flying school from Kanpur’s civil aerodrome. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been ascertained, and an investigation is expected to establish what led to the training aircraft going down.
The crash initially led to reports that one pilot had died while the other was critically injured. Subsequent updates confirmed that both the instructor and trainee pilot succumbed to the crash.
