Rahul Gandhi’s public misconduct with a woman police officer triggers political firestorm

Rahul Gandhi, scion of the Nehru-Gandhi clan, trying hard to usurp the chair of India’s Prime Minister, was caught live on TV cameras molesting a woman police officer on Thursday. In what could be an embarrassing situation for the Congress and its allies, Rahul Gandhi was seen groping, squeezing, and tickling the lady cop despite the stiff resistance offered by her. It was during the agitation demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar that Rahul Gandhi lost all control and touched her inappropriately on the sensitive parts of the woman police officer.

Though the officer was under orders from the police higher-ups not to react to any kind of assault from Rahul Gandhi, she was seen trying to save herself from the debauchery of the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. While her colleagues remained mute spectators to the incident, the commandos deputed to provide security to Rahul Gandhi were ensuring his safety and providing enough space for the LOP to continue his adventure.

Rahul Gandhi (57) is known as a chronic bachelor despite his role as a dandy in many a romantic relation. His close advisor from Malabar in Kerala, who is known as the Malayali Rasputin, is his coach and trainer in such activities. Republic TV channel telecast the unedited visuals of Rahul Gandhi’s misdemeanour that took place in full public view.

Meanwhile, 42 retired judges of various High Courts in India have written a strongly worded letter condemning the kind of agitation launched by the Congress and its allies against the Chief Election Commissioner. This agitation is certain to tarnish the image of constitutional authorities, they said in the letter. “Agitation against the government is a democratic right. But any agitation without any proof would denigrate the democratic institutions and lead to erosion of trust in the minds of the people,” said the letter.

The judges extended full support to Gyanesh Kumar and said the Election Commission of India is under assault. The former High Court judges said in the letter that constitutional bodies were facing attacks driven by political interests and warned of the consequences of undermining public trust in the country’s democratic institutions. “Our concern is grave. India’s constitutional bodies are under sustained attack. The Election Commission of India stands at the centre of this assault,” the letter read.

Denigration is not a right, they said. The Supreme Court, which dismissed a petition filed by a Congress worker demanding the suspension of the Chief Election Commissioner, had said that unless they hear from the CEC, no action could be taken on these issues. The apex court issued notices to the three election commissioners, the Director General of the Election Commission, the Deputy Election Commissioner and the Union government, returnable in ten days, before pursuing the matter.

Gauthaman Ramakrishnan and Sunil Wadayar, chief editors of Sree TV and India Live respectively, were unanimous in their assessment that the agitation launched by the Congress is with an eye on the general election, which may take place anytime once the Modi government is removed from office.
