Sangeetha seeks alimony and residence rights in divorce plea against Vijay
Sangeetha Sornalingam, wife of actor-politician Vijay, has filed for divorce in a court in Chengalpattu, Tamil Nadu, seeking dissolution of their marriage.
In her petition, Sangeetha — a social worker and entrepreneur — has also requested the right to reside in her matrimonial home and sought permanent alimony from Vijay. The actor has not yet responded to the plea.
Vijay and Sangeetha have been married for 27 years and share two children — son Jason Sanjay (25) and daughter Divya Saasha (20).
According to reports, Sangeetha was once a fan of Vijay who travelled from the United Kingdom to Chennai in the late 1990s to meet him. Their meeting reportedly marked the beginning of their relationship. Despite differences in their religious backgrounds — Vijay is a Christian and Sangeetha a Hindu — the couple went on to marry.
Meanwhile, Vijay is awaiting the release of his upcoming Tamil film Jana Nayagan, which is widely seen as his final film before fully entering politics. He is expected to formally step into the political arena with his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
