Army Captain martyred in J&K, operations underway

An Army officer was martyred and a terrorist injured on Wednesday during an anti-terrorist operation in the Akar forests, which straddle the border between Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur and Doda districts.

Official sources confirmed that Captain Deepak was martyred in the operation.

Despite the perilous conditions, Captain Deepak led from the front, directing his troops with bravery and determination as they worked to neutralize the terrorists in the densely forested area.

“He suffered gunshot injuries due to firing by terrorists and was evacuated to hospital. However, the captain succumbed to serious injuries and made the supreme sacrifices for the nation,” according to sources.

Earlier, the security forces engaged the terrorists in gunfire in the ongoing operation in Udhampur district.

The anti-terrorism operation was launched on Tuesday evening in Akar forests near the Patnitop tourist resort bordering between Udhampur and Doda districts.

Firing exchanges started on Wednesday morning after the security forces located the hiding terrorists in the forest area.

A US-made assault rifle was recovered from the site of an ongoing anti-terrorism operation in Udhampur district. The operation, which is taking place in the Akar forests area, has led to one terrorist being injured.

The operation is ongoing, with forces continuing their efforts to locate and capture the remaining terrorists. The sacrifice of Captain Deepak underscores the risks faced by security personnel in their mission to maintain peace and security in the region.

Forces have been positioned on mountaintops to prevent hit-and-run attacks by terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. This new strategy aims to counteract the terrorists’ previous tactics of surprise attacks followed by swift retreats into dense forests. The Army’s revised approach seeks to remove the element of surprise and flush out terrorists from the heavily wooded and hilly regions.
