ASI team arrives to survey Bhojshala in Dhar after the order of the MP High Court
On Friday, a team of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) comprising more than a dozen members, began a survey of the Bhojshala complex situated in the tribal-dominated Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.
The ASI team was accompanied by senior local police and district administration officials.
Security around ‘Bhojshala’ has been tightened, with police forces deployed across the city in anticipation of the survey.
The Madhya Pradesh High Court, on March 11, directed ASI to carry out within six weeks a ‘scientific survey’ of the Bhojshala complex, a medieval-era monument that Hindus believe is a temple of Goddess Vagdevi (Saraswati) and the Muslim community calls Kamal Maula Mosque.
The court emphasized the importance of revealing and clarifying the true nature of the complex to dispel existing confusion.
As per an ASI order issued on April 7, 2003, Hindus are allowed to worship inside the Bhojshala complex every Tuesday, while Muslims are allowed to offer namaz at the site on Fridays.
After the inspection, a survey blueprint will be drafted.
Dhar Superintendent of Police, Manoj Kumar Singh said, “In accordance with the directives of the High Court, we have received correspondence from the Additional Director of the Indian Culture Department.”
“Upon receipt of the communication, today we conducted an inspection of the Bhojshala premises. We deliberated on the necessary security measures to be implemented during the survey and discussed the requirements outlined by the ASI,” he added.
