Bihar to vote in two phases, results on November 14
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the schedule for the Bihar Assembly election, setting the stage for a high-stakes political contest in the state. Voting will be conducted in two phases — the first on November 6 and the second on November 11 — while the counting of votes will take place on November 14.
Addressing the media, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar said that 121 constituencies will go to polls in the first phase and the remaining 122 constituencies in the second. Alongside Bihar, the ECI also announced eight by-elections across seven states, with results to be declared on the same day.
During the press conference, Kumar also fielded questions about the use of Aadhaar cards in voter enrolment, following the Supreme Court’s directive allowing Aadhaar to be accepted as a 12th identification document.
“The Supreme Court has allowed Aadhaar as a valid identity document for voter registration, but it cannot be treated as proof of citizenship or residence,” Kumar stated.
The announcement officially kicks off the election process in Bihar, where political parties are already gearing up for an intense campaign season that will conclude before the current Assembly’s term ends on November 22.
