Security forces eliminate Maoists in Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmad, recover cache of weapons including AK-47s and SLRs

In a significant operation, at least 28 Maoists were killed during an encounter with security personnel in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Friday, according to official reports. The confrontation took place in the dense forests of Abujhmad, which straddles the borders of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts.

The clash began between 12:30 p.m. and 1:00 p.m., following a coordinated operation by a joint team from the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF). These teams had departed from the Orchha and Bastar police stations on Thursday in preparation for the operation.

Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj Pattilingam confirmed the recovery of 28 bodies of suspected Naxalites, alongside a significant cache of weapons, including AK-47 rifles and SLRs.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai took to social media platform X to announce the incident, praising the courage and bravery of the security forces involved. He described the operation as a commendable success and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to eradicating Maoism in the state.

“Our fight to end Maoism will continue until we achieve our goal,” the Chief Minister stated, highlighting the determination of the “double-engine government” to eliminate the threat posed by Maoist insurgents.

This operation aligns with the government’s broader efforts to address Naxal violence in the region. Earlier in September, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured victims of Naxal violence that Maoism would be fully eradicated from India by March 31, 2026. He emphasized the importance of peace and urged those involved in Left-Wing Extremism to abandon their violent ways.
