Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Friday renewed the government’s appeal to Maoists to abandon violence and join the mainstream, citing growing surrenders under the state’s rehabilitation policy. He said the government was committed to treating surrendered cadres fairly and ensuring their long-term reintegration through welfare and livelihood measures.

“We have repeatedly appealed to the Maoists to abandon the language of violence and gunfire and join the mainstream of development,” Sai said. Highlighting the impact of the policy, he noted that more than 2,000 Maoists have surrendered so far. The state is providing skills training and a monthly financial assistance of Rs 10,000 to those who lay down arms, he said, adding that the revised rehabilitation framework also includes provisions for agricultural land and plots to build houses in urban areas.

The chief minister’s remarks came a day after 34 Naxals surrendered in Bijapur district. Police said the surrendered cadres were collectively carrying rewards worth Rs 84 lakh. The surrenders took place under the state government’s rehabilitation initiative, “Poona Margham: Punarvas Se Punarjeevan” (Return to the Mainstream: Social Reintegration through Rehabilitation), which focuses on welfare-driven reintegration alongside sustained security operations.

Officials said the latest surrender reflects the combined impact of intensified anti-Naxal measures and confidence-building efforts. The Central government has set a March 2026 deadline to eradicate Naxalism from the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with Chhattisgarh remaining a key focus of the campaign.
