Delhi going into loss for first time: Shazia Ilmi on reports of revenue deficit by 2024-25 end

In a stark revelation, the Finance Ministry has alerted Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi about an impending revenue deficit by the end of the 2024-25 fiscal year. BJP National Spokesperson Shazia Ilmi did not hold back in her criticism, stating that this marks the first instance of the national capital’s treasury slipping into loss under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government.

According to the report, Delhi’s projected earnings from tax revenue, non-tax revenue, and grants from the Centre are set to fall significantly—from an initial budget estimate of Rs.64,142 crore to just Rs.62,415 crore.

This decline raises serious questions about the financial management of the AAP administration.

Ilmi expressed her shock at this development, highlighting, “It is unbelievable that a government that once boasted profits is now facing losses. In just two months, there may not be enough funds to pay salaries to government employees. This is a complete mess.” She specifically pointed to the Jal Nigam, historically a profit-making entity, now facing financial troubles under AAP’s leadership.

The BJP spokesperson further alleged that the Jal Nigam is withholding its audit report from the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), suggesting a lack of transparency. “Despite receiving substantial tax revenues, they have incurred massive debts, benefiting only the ‘Tanker Mafia,'” she claimed.

Ilmi accused the AAP government of attempting to conceal corruption, warning, “A fierce battle is on the horizon regarding this issue. They will resort to lies and accusations whenever the BJP challenges them.”

The criticism didn’t stop there. Ilmi also took aim at AAP’s reaction to the Public Works Department (PWD) sealing Chief Minister Atishi’s residence, which was recently vacated by former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. She stated, “It doesn’t matter who you are; once you vacate a property, it falls under the PWD’s jurisdiction for inspection and reallocation. What secrets is Kejriwal trying to hide?”

She questioned the motives behind the AAP’s narrative, asking whether there were lavish furnishings within the bungalow that they wished to keep hidden. “This ongoing deception will not stand. The truth will eventually come out,” Ilmi concluded, signaling a broader accountability movement against the AAP’s governance.

With Delhi’s financial stability now in jeopardy, the AAP government faces mounting pressure to address its mismanagement and restore public trust.
