Dr. Umar-un-Nabi’s ‘martyrdom video’ confirms Red Fort blast was premeditated

In a chilling development that has sent alarm bells ringing within the security establishment at the highest level, an undated self-recorded video of Dr. Umar un Nabi, the prime suspect in the deadly Red Fort car blast, has surfaced online, providing a stark glimpse into the radicalized psyche of the 28-year-old doctor-turned-suicide bomber.

The footage, which emerged just over a week after the November 10 explosion that claimed at least 13 lives and injured over 20 others, explicitly justifies suicide bombings as “martyrdom operations,” underscoring the premeditated nature of the attack and debunking early theories of an accidental detonation.

The video, believed to have been recorded in the days leading up to the blast, shows a composed and articulate Umar speaking in fluent English with a heavy accent from a dimly lit room, possibly his room in Faridabad, Haryana.

“One of the very misunderstood concepts is the concept of what has been labelled as suicide bombing. It is a martyrdom operation… known in Islam. Now, there are multiple contradictions; there are multiple arguments that have been brought against it,” Umar states calmly, framing the act as a deliberate religious duty rather than an act of self-harm.

He further elaborates that a “martyrdom operation” involves a person “presum[ing] that he is going to die at a particular place and time,” drawing a philosophical distinction from traditional suicide while emphasizing inevitability and divine predestination.

Investigators from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police’s Special Cell, who have taken over the probe, are expected to verify the authenticity of the video footage.

NIA has already confirmed that Dr Umar Un Nabi was present inside the Hyundai i20 car at the time of the car blast near the Red Fort area on November 10. Later, his identity was established by matching the DNA samples of his mother with the scattered remains of the body parts collected by the investigators from the blast site.

Security experts claimed, “This footage not only exposes the depth of his radicalization but also confirms the attack was no mishap. Umar had meticulously planned a large-scale suicide mission across different places.

So far, the NIA has arrested two co-conspirators of Dr Umar Un Nabi in the Delhi blast case. One Amir Rashid Ali was arrested on Sunday and remanded to the agency’s custody for 10 days.

On Monday, the NIA arrested Jasir Bilal Wani, son of a dry fruit seller, in Srinagar.

A resident of Anantnag, Wani allegedly provided technical support for carrying out terror attacks by modifying drones and attempting to make rockets ahead of the deadly blast, the NIA said in a statement.

“The accused, a resident of Qazigund in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, was an active co-conspirator behind the attack and had worked closely with the terrorist, Umar un Nabi, to plan the terror carnage,” the NIA statement read.

Jasir lived in the neighbourhood of Dr. Muzaafar Rather, brother of Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather. Dr Adeel was arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir police from Saharanpur on November 6, after which the terror module was unearthed during a joint operation by the Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh police teams led by the Jammu and Kashmir police.
