Radio Sangam strengthens information outreach in J&K border areas
The first-ever community radio station along the Line of Control (LoC) has been set up in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district, marking a major step towards strengthening information outreach, countering cross-border propaganda, and amplifying local voices in sensitive border areas, officials said.
The station, named “Radio Sangam,” has been established at Keri village, barely a kilometre from the LoC, by the Indian Army in collaboration with the civil administration and local residents.
Officials said Radio Sangam is the first community radio station operating along the LoC, designed to provide credible, verified information to border residents while countering misinformation and hostile propaganda emanating from across the border.
Owing to its strategic location, the station’s broadcasts can also be received in areas across the Line of Control, enhancing India’s information outreach in forward regions.
Inauguration and objectives
The radio station was inaugurated by Rajouri Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma in the presence of civil administration officials, civil society representatives and local residents.
Addressing the gathering, Sharma said Radio Sangam would play a vital role in promoting social awareness, encouraging public participation, and strengthening communication between the administration and border communities.
He added that the station would also serve as an effective tool to counter false narratives and propaganda from across the LoC, while providing a platform for locals to raise issues related to development, welfare schemes and daily life in border areas.
Officials said Radio Sangam will broadcast programmes focused on education, health, agriculture, disaster preparedness, government schemes, culture and community welfare, ensuring that people living in remote and vulnerable areas remain well-informed and connected.
