“Garv Se Kaho Yeh Swadeshi Hai,” says PM as he encourages citizens to share local purchases online
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended warm greetings to the nation on the occasion of Diwali, calling for the festival of lights to be celebrated with “harmony, happiness and prosperity.”
“Greetings on the occasion of Diwali. May this festival of lights illuminate our lives with harmony, happiness and prosperity. May the spirit of positivity prevail all around us,” PM Modi posted on X (formerly Twitter).
Alongside his festive message, the Prime Minister made a renewed appeal to citizens to prioritise Indian-made products, reinforcing his long-running ‘Vocal for Local’ campaign aimed at boosting indigenous industries and artisans.
“Let’s mark this festive season by celebrating the hard work, creativity and innovation of 140 crore Indians,” PM Modi wrote, urging people to support local manufacturers and small businesses.
Encouraging citizens to make conscious purchasing choices, he added: “Let’s buy Indian products and say—Garv Se Kaho Yeh Swadeshi Hai! (Proudly say this is indigenous!).”
To amplify the message, the Prime Minister also urged people to share their Swadeshi purchases on social media, saying such posts would “inspire others also to do the same.”
The Prime Minister’s appeal linked the spirit of Diwali with the government’s broader Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) vision — framing the act of buying locally-made goods as both a patriotic gesture and a contribution to the livelihoods of India’s craftsmen, entrepreneurs, and workers.
As millions across the country prepared for Diwali festivities, PM Modi’s message served as both a festive greeting and a call to action — urging citizens to let their celebrations shine through self-reliance and support for the nation’s economy.
