PM Modi highlights generational shift in BJP leadership
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated Nitin Nabin on taking charge as the new national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, describing him as a “millennial” leader who represents a generation that has witnessed India’s rapid economic and technological transformation.
Speaking at a ceremony at the BJP’s headquarters in Delhi, the prime minister said the party is now in the hands of a leader who grew up in an India that evolved from radio-era news consumption to the age of artificial intelligence.
“Nitin ji himself is, in a way, a millennial. He belongs to a generation that has witnessed a great deal of change in India. He belongs to an era which, in childhood, heard the news on the radio and today is well versed in using AI,” Modi said.
Nitin Nabin assumed charge as BJP national president on Tuesday after being elected unopposed during the party’s nomination process on Monday. He replaces J P Nadda, who served as party president during a period marked by electoral victories and organisational expansion.
At the event, Modi also lauded former BJP national presidents Amit Shah and J P Nadda, crediting their leadership for helping the party retain power at the Centre and strengthen its footprint across states.
Congratulating Nabin, the prime minister remarked that the new party chief would now be his “boss in matters related to the party,” underscoring the organisational authority of the BJP president.
“Nitin Nabin ji is now our president. His responsibility is not limited to the BJP alone; it also includes ensuring coordination within the NDA,” Modi added.
A five-time MLA from Bihar and a former state minister, Nabin is regarded within the party as a seasoned organiser with significant administrative experience.
