PM Modi claims BJP-NDA gaining support across Kerala
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the ruling Left and the Congress-led opposition in Kerala, accusing them of repeatedly “looting” the state while alternating in power.
Addressing a high-voltage rally ahead of the April 9 Assembly elections, Modi said the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance is the “real A-team” in Kerala and expressed confidence that the alliance would form the next government.
“In Kerala, Team BJP and Team NDA are to form the government. With the blessings of the people of Kerala, and with all your support, we will form the government here, and we will leave no stone unturned in serving Kerala,” he said.
PM claims political mood shifting
Modi said he sensed a changing political atmosphere in the state and claimed growing support for the NDA among youth, women and farmers.
“There is a different atmosphere in Kerala, sending a message of change,” he said.
He added that various sections of society were increasingly placing their trust in the BJP-led alliance.
“Now, the youth of Kerala have faith in the BJP and the NDA. Now, the women of Kerala have affection for the BJP and the NDA. Now, the farmers of Kerala have love for the BJP and the NDA,” he said.
‘Kerala trapped between LDF and UDF’
Targeting the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Democratic Front and the Indian National Congress-led United Democratic Front, Modi alleged that the two alliances have taken turns in power while failing to hold each other accountable.
“There has been a practical understanding between them — for a few years the LDF runs the government and fills its pockets, and after that the UDF comes and continues the loot. In this arrangement, Kerala has remained trapped,” he said.
Referring to accusations between the two fronts that the other is the BJP’s “B-team”, Modi said the claims themselves show which party is the main challenger.
“This means that both the LDF and the UDF have themselves admitted that in this Kerala election, if there is one real A-team, it is only and only the BJP,” he said.
He further alleged that both fronts fear the BJP because a change in government would expose alleged corruption.
“This means that if these two corrupt parties are afraid of anyone, it is the BJP. They fear the BJP because they believe that if the BJP comes to power, all their wrongdoings will be exposed,” he said.
Allegations of scams and debt
The prime minister also accused successive LDF and UDF governments of being involved in major scams and said neither side had acted against the other.
“If a BJP government comes to power, it will investigate every scam of the LDF and the UDF and ensure justice for the people of Kerala,” he said.
Modi also criticised the Left government’s economic record, claiming that Kerala’s public debt has crossed ₹5 lakh crore and increased sharply over the past decade.
“People are asking where this money is going. There is only one answer–it is going into the pockets of LDF leaders,” he alleged.
Development pitch and Palakkad focus
Highlighting development initiatives, Modi said Kerala has received significantly more central funds under the NDA government compared to previous Congress-led regimes.
During the rally, he also referred to the cultural importance of the Kalpathy Temple in Palakkad.
“As a Member of Parliament from Kashi, this makes it even more special for me,” he said.
Modi added that the region has seen key development projects, including Kerala’s first Indian Institute of Technology campus, upgrades to railway stations and highways, and plans for a smart industrial city.
The prime minister urged voters to support BJP candidate Shobha Surendran in Palakkad, recalling that the party had earlier fielded E Sreedharan in the constituency.
“We were saddened by that result, and so were the people of Palakkad,” he said.
Modi also highlighted the NDA government’s initiatives for women, including the passage of the Nari Shakti Vandan Act, aimed at increasing women’s representation in legislatures.
