How Lalit Modi, Shashank Manohar et. al. tried to fool Supreme Court by financing a PIL

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]W[/dropcap]ith Shashank Manohar’s unexpected resignation on Tuesday, the murky world of cricket syndicate has started shivering. Is it a pre-emptive move? Was it that his secret understanding with the absconding Lalit Modi  via emails was going to be scrutinised by the Supreme Court in Subramanian Swamy’s petition? The Apex Court is going to hear Swamy’s petition along with the ongoing BCCI cases on July 1 and Lalit Modi’s leaked emails attached in his petition reveal how Lalit Modi and Sharad Pawar’s man Shashank Manohar fooled the Courts by abusing the law by filing a Public Interest Litigation(PIL).

The leaked emails of Lalit K Modi (LKM) show that the PIL filed in Supreme Court was financed by Modi and it is a grave violation of the rules prescribed by the Courts. The petitioner Aditya Verma was fully financed by LKM to settle his scores against his rivals in the cricket world. This is against the rules of PIL as the petitioner of the PIL gives an undertaking to the court when he/ she files a PIL that it was a public interest matter and that it was not filed with any ulterior motives, or financed by any others. The contents of the email were earlier published by this portal in detail in February. Aditya Verma, who filed the PIL in Supreme Court was the head of Bihar Cricket Association. In the emails below, LKM expresses his displeasure of over-expensing by Verma and suggests cutting costs by using a three-star hotel facility instead of plundering his money in five-star accommodations:

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]T[/dropcap]hese emails clearly show that food, travel, accommodation and funds were given to Aditya Verma by LKM. This is a clear violation and a brazen attempt to fool the Court.

The following email shows that at some point Lalit Modi patched up with Sharad Pawar. They also give the impression that Sharad Pawar’s lieutenant Shashank Manohar and Lalit Modi were in tandem on the operation against the CSK (Chennai Super Kings) and RR (Rajasthan Royals). See the email dated June 20, 2013 from LKM to Manohar:

Who is the “Sahib” mentioned by Lalit Modi? It is Sharad Pawar.

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]S[/dropcap]everal emails show that noted lawyer Harish Salve was advising Modi in Aditya Verma’s PIL against BCCI. One such email from Swadeep Hora to Lalit Modi on BCCI’s Interim Application (IA) on April 10, 2014:

said the email on legal strategy on what to do with BCCI’s IA (Internal Audit) seeking audio transcripts pf Dhoni and Srinivasan.

Another interesting email from LKM to Harish Salve on March 28, 2014: This shows that noted lawyer Salve was the head of Modi’s battery of lawyers in his proxy war through Bihar Cricket Association head Aditya Verma. LKM tells Salve to never suggest cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar in any interim committee to clean the dirt in the Cricket as he is a money minded person. LKM insists on proposing Shashank Manohar and Saurav Ganguly in such committees during arguments in Court.

Some emails show that former Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s wife Nalini Chidambaram was also in the legal team of Lalit Modi. Some of his emails to Aditya Verma dated May 22, 2014 is marked to her also. This particular email dated May 22 marked to Nalini on returning the bills of Aditya Verma as it was not signed and was not on letterhead.

“Not signed. Not on letterhead. Redo,” said Modi’s email to Verma, marked to Nalini Chidambaram.

Another email to Aditya Verma on December 6, 2014 was also marked to Nalini Chidambaram about the discussion of conflicts of interests of N Srinivasan and the cases in Bombay and Supreme Court.

In one email Aditya Verma is “humbly” requesting Lalit Modi for giving him a loan to conduct cricket matches in Bihar.

One email dated November 12, 2014 shows that Harish Salve was paid Rs.21 lakh for appearing before Mudgal commission three times.

“Harish Salve is appearing in Mudgal matter. He is required to be paid for 3 appearances – one he has already appeared on November 10, 2014 and also on two more dates fixed by the Supreme Court namely November 14, 2014 and November 11, 2014. He is to be paid Rs.7 lacs per appearance, therefore totalling Rs.21 lakhs. Mr.Lalit Mod has desired that the said amount be released to Mr.Salve. Kindly do the needful in this regard as soon as possible. The appearance of Harish Salve is a must,” said Swadeep to one Ramamurthy in the email marked to Lalit Modi.

[dropcap color=”#008040″ boxed=”yes” boxed_radius=”8px” class=”” id=””]I[/dropcap]n another email dated May 9, 2014, Lalit Modi orders clearing the pending payment of Rs.15 lakhs to Harish Salve. The mail also attached the bill from Salve’s office titled BCCI Vs Cricket Association of Bihar. The three bills attached gives the impression that Salve charged Rs.5 lakhs per appearance on the proxy war of Lalit Modi thru Aditya Verma. The mail originated from Salve’s office at Room No: 1001,  inside Hotel Taj Man Singh.

Is Shashank Manohar quitting now because Supreme Court will be going through his email exchanges to Lalit Modi? Is his resignation an escape route?

Soon, we will be presenting Lalit Modi’s emails sent in a panic to various media barons after the controversy of Sushma Swaraj’s recommendation letter was published in Times Now.
