Kanpur accident: ₹12-crore Lamborghini rams auto, bike; medical claim under scrutiny

At least six people were injured on Sunday afternoon after a Lamborghini sports car allegedly driven by the son of a prominent tobacco businessman went out of control and rammed into an auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle in Kanpur, triggering panic and anger among locals.

The incident occurred around 3:15 pm near Rev-3 Mall in the Ring Wala area, according to police. The luxury vehicle, reportedly driven by Shivam Mishra, son of billionaire businessman K K Mishra, mounted the pavement after hitting multiple vehicles before coming to a halt after crashing into an electric pole.

Eyewitnesses said the high-speed car first struck an auto-rickshaw and then hit a Royal Enfield motorcycle. The impact was so severe that the biker was flung nearly 10 feet into the air. The Lamborghini reportedly dragged the motorcycle for some distance before stopping.

Speaking to reporters, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Atul Kumar Srivastava confirmed the details of the crash.
“The accident occurred near Rev-3 Mall when the luxury car reportedly went out of control and ploughed into people standing along the roadside and several vehicles, causing panic,” he said.

Following the crash, enraged locals surrounded the vehicle and attempted to block the driver from leaving the scene. However, witnesses alleged that private bouncers arrived shortly after and helped extract the driver from the car.

“I heard that bouncers broke the window and pulled the driver out. He was taken away in another car. The Lamborghini was later taken to the police station,” an eyewitness told news agency ANI, adding that four to five people were injured in the incident.

The driver’s family has claimed that Shivam Mishra suffers from a medical condition and experienced a seizure while driving, leading to loss of control.
“He has been suffering from these episodes for the last six months,” a family member told police.

Police later towed the ₹12-crore Lamborghini to Gwaltoli police station, where it attracted large crowds of onlookers. Officers eventually covered the vehicle with a tarp, a move that drew criticism from some quarters who alleged it was done to shield the high-profile family from public scrutiny.

DCP Srivastava said a detailed investigation is underway to verify the medical claims and determine whether negligence or other violations were involved. Statements from eyewitnesses are being recorded, and CCTV footage from the area is being examined.
