CM Mohan Yadav orders strict action after controversial remark

The Madhya Pradesh government has removed IAS officer Santosh Verma from his post after an internal probe found he had allegedly entered the civil services through fraudulent means, officials said on Thursday.

Verma, who was serving as Deputy Secretary in the state’s Agriculture Department, is accused of securing his IAS position using fabricated documents to obtain an integrity certificate. A departmental inquiry into the allegations is now in its final stages, officials added.

The action comes amid an ongoing controversy surrounding Verma’s recent remarks about the Brahmin community, which triggered widespread outrage.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took cognisance of Verma’s controversial comments made during a provincial convention of the Madhya Pradesh AJJAKS (Anusuchit Jati-Janjati Adhikari Evam Karmachari Sangh) in Bhopal on November 23. The remarks were deemed objectionable and in violation of the All India Services (Conduct and Discipline) Rules.

The General Administration Department (GAD) was directed to take strict action.

According to the show-cause notice issued to Verma, his statement — “One person in a family should get reservation until a Brahmin donates his daughter to my son or makes a relationship with him” — appeared to promote social disharmony and mutual animosity.

The notice stated the remarks amounted to “indiscipline, arbitrariness and serious misconduct” inconsistent with the standards expected of an IAS officer.

MP BJP MP calls for probe into Verma’s promotion

Rewa MP Janardan Mishra strongly criticised Verma’s comments and questioned how he was promoted to the IAS. Mishra has written to Union Minister of State for Personnel, Jitendra Singh, seeking a detailed investigation.

Mishra alleged Verma initially served in the Madhya Pradesh Administrative Service under the SC category but later used an ST certificate to secure entry into the Indian Administrative Service—an act he called “fraudulent.” He also flagged past criminal proceedings against Verma, including a period of custody, saying these should have been considered during his elevation.

He demanded that Verma’s IAS promotion be revoked if the allegations are proven.
