Cocaine worth Rs.5000 cr seized in Gujarat

In a significant joint operation between Delhi and Gujarat Police, authorities recovered 518 kilograms of cocaine cocaine worth Rs.5,000 crore in Ankleshwar, Gujarat, on Sunday, leading to the arrest of five individuals. This seizure is linked to a prior recovery of 700 kilograms of cocaine in Delhi, bringing the total amount of drugs recovered to an astonishing 1,289 kilograms, along with 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana. The total value of these drugs is estimated to exceed Rs.13,000 crore.

Officials have indicated that this is likely the largest drug seizure ever conducted by any agency in India. According to a Delhi Police officer, the investigation into the earlier seizure revealed that the cocaine was sourced from Avkar Drugs Limited Company in Ankleshwar. Following this lead, a team from the Special Cell was dispatched to Gujarat, where the drugs were recovered from the company’s godown.

The five individuals arrested during the operation are currently being interrogated regarding their connections to an alleged international drug syndicate believed to be operating out of Dubai and the UK.

This latest bust follows a series of significant drug seizures by the Special Cell. On October 2, police confiscated over 560 kilograms of cocaine and 40 kilograms of hydroponic marijuana from a godown in south Delhi’s Mahipalpur, arresting four people in connection with that case. Subsequently, two additional suspects were apprehended in Amritsar and Chennai.

In another major haul on Thursday, the Special Cell seized 208 kilograms of cocaine valued at Rs.2,080 crore from a rented shop in west Delhi, resulting in the arrest of a seventh suspect from Hapur, Uttar Pradesh.

Authorities are intensifying their investigation into the extensive drug network, as the fight against drug trafficking continues to escalate across the nation.
