Joint Army, police and CRPF action in Chatroo belt; arms including AK-47 rifles recovered
Two terrorists affiliated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed in an encounter with security forces in a remote forested area of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, officials said.
The operation, codenamed ‘Trashi-I’, was launched by the Army’s White Knight Corps based on credible intelligence inputs.
Joint operation based on multi-agency intelligence
According to officials, the deliberate joint operation was initiated after intelligence inputs were collated from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Intelligence Bureau (IB), and Army sources regarding the presence of terrorists in the Kishtwar region.
In a post on X, the White Knight Corps said troops of the Counter-Intelligence Force (CIF) Delta, in close coordination with police and CRPF, re-engaged the terrorists around 11 am in challenging terrain after earlier establishing contact.
The encounter took place in the general area of Passerkut in the Chatroo belt, a region that has witnessed multiple encounters in recent weeks.
Arms and ammunition recovered
Security forces recovered arms and ammunition from the slain terrorists, including two AK-47 rifles.
The Army said the troops displayed “tactical precision, seamless synergy and resolute aggression” in dominating the encounter site. “The hunt continues – those who seek to disturb peace will find no sanctuary,” it added.
Pakistani nationals, say officials
Quoting preliminary inputs, officials said both terrorists were Pakistani nationals affiliated with the proscribed JeM outfit.
The militants were reportedly hiding inside a mud house in the foothills when they opened fire on approaching search teams, triggering a fierce gunfight.
Search operations are ongoing in the area to ensure no other militants are present.
Sixth JeM terrorist neutralised this year in Jammu region
With Sunday’s operation, security forces have neutralised six JeM terrorists in separate encounters across the Jammu region this year, officials said.
Earlier, two terrorists were killed in Udhampur district and one in Kathua. The Chatroo forest belt alone witnessed nearly half a dozen encounters last month, resulting in the death of one soldier and one terrorist.
Security forces have intensified operations in the Jammu region amid continued attempts by Pakistan-based groups to infiltrate and destabilise the area.
