Seven FIRs filed after large-scale thefts during Enrique Iglesias show
At least 73 mobile phones worth a collective ₹23.85 lakh were stolen during global pop icon Enrique Iglesias’ high-profile concert at Mumbai’s MMRDA Grounds in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on Wednesday evening, police said on Friday.
The event, which marked Iglesias’ debut performance in Mumbai, drew a crowd of more than 25,000 fans who grooved to his timeless hits like “Hero” and “Bailamos.”
According to police officials, seven FIRs have been registered so far in connection with the thefts. The complainants include a makeup artist, hotelier, students, a journalist, and several businessmen.
The tickets for the concert were priced from ₹7,000 upwards, making it one of the most expensive live music events in the city this year.
Authorities suspect that the thefts were carried out by organised pickpocket gangs that often target large gatherings. “We are examining CCTV footage from the venue and nearby areas. A few suspects have been identified,” an officer said.
Meanwhile, fans expressed disappointment on social media, stating that although the concert was musically electrifying, the security arrangements were inadequate given the ticket prices and crowd size.
Despite the incidents, Iglesias’ performance received massive praise from attendees, many calling it a “once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
