Yogi Adityanath warns that ‘political Islam’ seeks to alter India’s demography and divide society
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that “political Islam” poses a major threat to India’s unity and demographic balance, asserting that the country’s ancestors had fought against the same forces centuries ago.
Speaking at an event in Gorakhpur marking the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s (RSS) centenary celebrations, Adityanath said that while colonial powers like the British and French are frequently discussed in history, the struggles against “political Islam” rarely find mention.
“Our ancestors waged significant battles against political Islam — Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Guru Gobind Singh, Maharana Pratap, and Maharana Sanga all stood firm against it. Yet, this aspect of our history remains largely overlooked,” Adityanath said.
The Chief Minister warned that “political Islam” continues to work to divide Indian society, citing the case of Chhangur Baba alias Jalaluddin Shah in Balrampur district, who was arrested earlier this year for allegedly running a religious conversion racket.
“Elements like Chhangur Baba are part of a larger design to fragment the country. The RSS is working tirelessly to unite the society against such threats, and its efforts deserve appreciation,” he said.
‘Halal Certification a Major Scam’
Yogi Adityanath also reiterated his government’s recent crackdown on Halal-certified products in Uttar Pradesh, alleging that the certification process had been misused to raise funds illegally.
He claimed that over ₹25,000 crore had been collected across India “in the name of Halal certification” without the consent of the Centre or any state government.
“This money is misused for terrorism, love jihad, and religious conversion. That is why Uttar Pradesh has started a major campaign against it,” he said.
He further alleged that even products like soaps, clothes, and matchsticks were being certified as Halal. “When you buy something, check if it has a Halal mark. We have banned it in Uttar Pradesh. You will be surprised at the scale — even daily-use items carry it,” Adityanath said.
Yogi Targets Akhilesh Yadav Over Deepotsav Remarks
The Chief Minister also took aim at Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav for questioning the need for the government’s grand Deepotsav celebrations in Ayodhya.
“He asked what the need was to light lamps. In other words, he has hatred towards Deepavali. Earlier, we thought his problem was with Ram Janmabhoomi and other Hindu pilgrimage sites,” Adityanath remarked.
He accused Yadav of being insensitive to the plight of the Prajapati community, whose livelihood depends on making earthen lamps for the festival.
“It is said that one can inherit the throne, but not the brain. For some people, childishness stays forever,” he said, calling Yadav a “traitor to the festivals of Sanatan Dharma.”
Background
The remarks come amid Uttar Pradesh’s ongoing campaign against illegal conversions and the sale of Halal-certified products. The state government recently issued orders prohibiting the sale of such items without official sanction, claiming financial misuse and threats to national security.
