SIT nabs Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil in early-morning operation at Palakkad
Rahul Mamkootathil, the rogue MLA accused in many rape and sexual assault case has been trapped by the special investigation team of the Kerala Police in a daring operation at Palakkad in the wee hours of Sunday. Later, he was produced before a judge in Pathanamthitta, who remanded him for 14 days, and Mamkootathil was sent to the district jail.
Mamkootathil, a close associate of Rahul Gandhi, was taken into custody from his suite in a deluxe star hotel in Palakkad by the team of police officials after ensuring that his hangers-on had left the hotel room after the late-night fun and frolicking.[1]
He was arrested following the complaint lodged by a lady victim who accused him of rape and forced medical termination of pregnancy. The Thiruvalla-born lady sent her complaint to the police chief, listing the cruelties meted out to her by the MLA. He had taken money to the tune of lakhs of rupees from me after promising to marry me. “Once I got pregnant, he threatened me to undergo an abortion and abused me when I refused to do so,” said the victim in her complaint to the SIT.
Following her complaint, the police took a statement from her by video-conferencing, and she offered her willingness to undergo a DNA test. But Rahul Mamkootathil, who has been turned out to be a Mr Natwarlal for the Kerala Police, dismissed the plea to undergo the DNA test.
Since he was out on bail in two other cases of rape and assault, the MLA was under the impression that the police would not trouble him with arrest. It was the moment the cops were waiting for. In earlier cases, Rahul Mamkootathil gave a slip to the police in the nick of time and escaped to safety.
Though the MLA pleaded with the court that he be set free, the police told the court that the former is a habitual offender and had continued with his habit of raping ladies. Though he was granted anticipatory bail in previous cases, Lady Luck did not smile at him this time, and he was driven to the district jail from the residence of the judge.
Before taking him to General Hospital, Mamkoottathil was grilled by the cops for nearly six hours. But the MLA remained adamant and did not answer the queries posed by the police. It may be noted that he has threatened many Congress leaders, especially P J Kurian, former vice-chairman of the Rajya Sabha, for speaking against him. Kurian made a turn around and started showering encomiums on the MLA, though the former had questioned the propriety of fielding the tainted Mamkootathil for the upcoming Assembly elections as a candidate from Palakkad[2].
