Russia Offers Full 5th-Gen Fighter Tech to India Ahead of Putin Visit
In a major strategic overture ahead of President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India next month, Russia has proposed giving New Delhi unrestricted access to its most advanced fifth-generation fighter jet technologies — a move that could significantly reshape India’s future air combat capabilities.
Moscow has offered India full technology access to the Su-57 stealth fighter, including phased transfer of production from Russia to India, according to Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Russian defence conglomerate Rostec. Under the proposal, India would first receive Russian-built Su-57s, followed by a gradual shift to indigenous manufacturing.
Russia is also reportedly prepared to offer India its upcoming Su-75 “Checkmate” single-engine stealth fighter, expanding the scope of collaboration.
If accepted, the offer would give India access to technologies — engines, stealth materials, sensors, AI avionics, AESA radar and air weapons — that Western countries have repeatedly declined to share.
Speaking to ANI at the Dubai Air Show 2025, Chemezov said Russia is willing to open its entire fifth-generation ecosystem to India.
“India and Russia have been partners for many years… whatever India requires, we are here to support,” he said. He added that any request by India would be “completely acceptable.”
A senior Rosoboronexport representative said Russia is offering India licence production, integration of Indian weapons, and technology transfer for next-generation systems, including low-signature technologies and modern air weapons.
Putin is expected to visit India in December for the 23rd India–Russia Annual Summit, where major defence announcements are anticipated.
