Elite units of Sudarshan Chakra Corps demonstrate operational synergy in Jaisalmer desert exercise

The Indian Army’s Southern Command on Tuesday conducted ‘Exercise Maru Jwala’ in the deserts of Jaisalmer, marking the culmination of the two-month-long tri-services exercise ‘Trishul’. The large-scale drill demonstrated the operational readiness, integration, and coordination of the Army’s elite strike formations.

Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command, described Maru Jwala as a crucial and final phase of the broader Trishul operations. “Exercise Maru Jwala is a very important part of the overall Exercise Trishul, which is a tri-service exercise. This was the final phase of the operations over the last two months,” he said.

Sudarshan Chakra Corps leads the final phase

The Sudarshan Chakra Corps, the Southern Command’s strike formation, played a leading role in the drill, having undergone rigorous training for two months. “Its main unit, the Shahbaz Division, which is a rapid response formation, was also included in this exercise,” Lt Gen Seth said.

He added that the Aviation Brigade, Electronic Warfare Brigade, and Para-Special Forces Battalion of the Southern Command also participated in the exercise, showcasing high levels of coordination and precision. “The success achieved by all of them together over the last two months — the fruits of which you all saw this morning under Maru Jwala — reflects the Army’s high preparedness,” he said.

Focus on technology and modern warfare

Highlighting the Army’s integration of new-generation equipment into field operations, Lt Gen Seth commended the troops’ adaptability and commitment. “The Sudarshan Chakra Corps has trained with such diligence that I am confident they will effectively incorporate the new-generation equipment they have received into their training. I commend the entire Corps for their dedication and professionalism,” he said.

The exercise also featured pathfinder elements from the 7th Para Battalion and Airborne units, which undertook strategic final-stage missions simulating real-world battle conditions.

‘Exercise Maru Jwala’ forms part of India’s ongoing effort to enhance jointness among the Army, Navy, and Air Force, ensuring rapid and coordinated response capabilities across diverse terrains.
