Samajwadi Party distances itself from Nawab Singh Yadav
Nawab Singh Yadav, a prominent leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP) and former block chief, has been arrested in connection with allegations of attempting to rape a 15-year-old girl in Kannauj district. The arrest was made following an incident in the Sadar Kotwali area.
Nawab Singh Yadav is believed to be close to Kannauj MP and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav’s wife Dimple Yadav.
Authorities have charged Yadav with the attempted rape of the minor, who is reported to be approximately 15 years old.
According to reports, Nawab Singh had called the minor girl and her aunt promising them to offer a job. Once they arrived, Nawab Singh allegedly attempted to sexually assault the minor. However, the girl managed to save herself by quickly contacting the UP Police helpline, 112, and reporting the incident.
Following the girl’s alert, the police swiftly acted on the information and arrested Nawab Singh Yadav. An FIR was lodged based on the complaint filed by the victim’s mother. The minor has undergone a medical examination, and her statement has been recorded by the authorities. The victim has levelled grave accusations against the SP leader, which has further intensified the case.
Kannauj Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar Anand provided details of the incident, stating, “Last night around 1.30 am, a call was received on UP 112 wherein a girl said that she had been stripped, and an attempt of assault had been made on her. Kannauj Police reached the spot immediately. The girl was rescued, and the accused Nawab Singh Yadav was arrested in an objectionable condition. During questioning, the girl said that she arrived at the residence of Nawab Singh Yadav along with her paternal aunt. She was told that she had to be there for a job.”
Commenting on the arrest, SP spokesperson Manoj Yadav distanced the party from the accused, stating, “Nawab Singh has nothing to do with the SP. What is surprising is that BJP leaders arrived at the police station to protect him. The investigation will reveal what is truly happening.”
The investigation into the matter is ongoing, with local officials and law enforcement agencies working to ensure that justice is served. The arrest has further intensified scrutiny of political figures and their conduct in the region.
