Rising violence against migrant workers raises concerns
A 19-year-old migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh was injured in a shooting by terrorists in Tral, Jammu and Kashmir, on Thursday morning. This incident marks the third attack on migrant workers in the region within just one week.
The victim, identified as Shubam Kumar from Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, sustained bullet injuries to his hand during the attack in Batagund village. He has since been hospitalized and is reported to be in stable condition.
The recent wave of violence began on October 20, when seven individuals, including one doctor and six migrant workers, were killed in a shooting at a construction site in the Sonamarg area of Ganderbal district. The victims were part of a team working on the Z-Morh tunnel, which connects Gaganeer to Sonamarg.
Following that attack, The Resistance Front, an offshoot of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the violence.
Earlier, on October 18, another migrant worker, Ashok Chauhan from Bihar, was found dead in Shopian district. His body, riddled with bullets, was discovered by locals in the Waduna area of Zainapora.
The series of attacks has raised alarms regarding the safety of migrant workers in Kashmir, prompting calls for increased security measures in the region.
