Calls the appointment of Ramchander Rao a betrayal of party workers
In a major political development, Goshamahal MLA T Raja Singh announced his resignation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday. His decision follows reports that Ramchander Rao may be appointed as the new Telangana BJP president—an announcement Singh called a betrayal of dedicated party workers.
In a letter addressed to Telangana BJP chief G Kishan Reddy, Singh criticized the reported leadership decision, stating it has disheartened lakhs of BJP supporters and ground-level workers across the state. “This decision has come as a shock, not just to me, but to lakhs of karyakartas, leaders, and voters who have supported the BJP,” he wrote.
Alleges party interests undermined by internal power play
Singh accused unnamed figures of making leadership decisions based on personal interests rather than the party’s future in Telangana. Referring to them as “individuals running the show from behind the curtain,” he emphasized that the wrong leadership could derail the BJP’s opportunity to form its first government in the state.
“I cannot stay silent or pretend that all is well,” he said, underlining that his resignation reflects widespread dissatisfaction among the party’s grassroots.
Reaffirms commitment to Hindutva, urges leadership reconsideration
Although leaving the party, Singh reaffirmed his commitment to the Hindutva ideology and said he would continue to serve the Hindu community. “I will continue to raise my voice and stand with the Hindu community with even greater strength,” he added.
In a message directed to BJP’s central leadership—Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president J P Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and party general secretary B L Santhosh—Singh urged a reevaluation of Telangana’s leadership. “Telangana is ready for the BJP, but we must choose the right leadership to honour that opportunity and not let it slip away,” he wrote.
He concluded the letter with “Jai Hind. Jai Shri Ram.”
Controversial background
Known for his outspoken and often controversial statements, Raja Singh had recently sparked debate during an April Ram Navami procession in Hyderabad. He referred to the amended Waqf law as a move to end what he described as “land jihad,” and reiterated his call for India to be declared a “Hindu Rashtra.”
