US offers Iran ceasefire framework amid West Asia conflict

The administration of Donald Trump has reportedly shared a 15-point peace proposal with Iran aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in West Asia, with reports suggesting the United States has sought a month-long ceasefire to facilitate negotiations.

According to The Associated Press, the proposal reportedly includes stringent curbs on Iran’s nuclear programme and provisions to reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical maritime routes for energy supplies.

    Major US military build-up continues

Even as diplomatic efforts gather pace, the United States is reinforcing its military presence in the region. Reports indicate that around 1,000 additional troops from the 82nd Airborne Division are being deployed, adding to the nearly 50,000 American personnel already stationed across West Asia.

The United States Department of Defense is also deploying two Marine Expeditionary Units, bringing roughly 5,000 Marines and several thousand sailors to the region.

The developments have reportedly surprised Israel, where officials had been urging Washington to maintain military pressure on Iran rather than move toward a ceasefire framework.

Key conditions in the 15-point proposal

A report by Channel 12 said the proposal outlines strict conditions for ending the war, including halting uranium enrichment and reopening global shipping routes.

According to the report, special envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner have designed a process centred on a month-long ceasefire period, during which both sides would negotiate a comprehensive agreement.

Key reported conditions of the proposal

The reported framework includes several requirements for Tehran:

    • Iran must dismantle its current nuclear capabilities.
    • Iran must commit to never developing nuclear weapons.
    • No uranium enrichment would be allowed inside Iranian territory.
    • Around 450 kg of uranium enriched to 60% would be handed over to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
    • Nuclear facilities at Natanz Nuclear Facility, Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center, and Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant must be dismantled.
    • The IAEA must receive full access and transparency across Iran.
    • Iran must halt regional proxy operations and support to allied militias.
    • The Strait of Hormuz must remain open for unrestricted global shipping.
    • Iran’s missile programme would face limits in range and quantity.
    • Any future missile use would be restricted strictly to self-defence.

However, Israeli officials have reportedly expressed concerns that Washington could push for an “agreement in principle” before all conditions are fully implemented.
