Police action in the Bahraich incident
In a decisive move reflecting the stringent governance of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh Police engaged in a critical encounter with two accused, Mohammad Sarfaraz and Mohammad Talibon Thursday. The suspects, sons of Abdul Hamid—arrested earlier—were shot during a confrontation, with Sarfaraz sustaining injuries to his right leg and Talib to his left. Reports indicate Sarfaraz intended to flee to Nepal after his alleged involvement in a recent crime spree.
The situation escalated earlier this week, following violent communal clashes during a Durga Puja idol immersion that resulted in the death of 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra. Additionally, six others were also injured due to stone-pelting and gunfire.
Authorities responded swiftly, leading to the arrest of Danish, another suspect trying to escape to Nepal, bringing the total arrested to 55 as police launched extensive raids in the area.
In light of the violence, which caused significant property damage, including fires set to homes and vehicles, Bahraich police have registered multiple FIRs against both identified and unidentified individuals.
Amidst ongoing tensions, Chief Minister Adityanath assured the victim’s family of comprehensive action against those responsible, underscoring the administration’s commitment to law and order in the state.
