Yogi alleges misuse of rural schemes under past governments

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday hailed the Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G-RAM-G) Act as a landmark reform for rural India, asserting that the legislation would play a foundational role in achieving the vision of a developed India.

Addressing a press conference after a state cabinet meeting, Adityanath said the new law marked a revolutionary step towards strengthening villages, empowering farmers, and ensuring dignity and social security for rural workers.

“This law will lay the foundation of a developed India. A developed India is possible only when states are developed, and states develop when villages progress. When the rural economy is empowered, farmers become self-reliant, and workers are assured respect and social security, the goal of a developed India will move forward,” the Chief Minister said.

Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Adityanath said he welcomed the legislation on behalf of the people of Uttar Pradesh.

The Chief Minister also launched a sharp attack on the Congress and the INDI alliance, accusing them of opposing the law to protect corruption. He alleged that the same forces that had “looted national resources for years” were now questioning the intent of the legislation.

“The INDI alliance should be thanking the government for this law instead of opposing it. They are opposing it only to shield corruption,” Adityanath claimed.

Targeting previous Congress-led governments, the Chief Minister alleged widespread irregularities in rural employment schemes in the past. He claimed that fake job cards were created, false attendance was marked, and meaningless work was undertaken merely to siphon off public funds.

“They would dig pits only to fill them again. That is why their vested interests are being hurt today,” he said.

Reiterating the government’s development vision, Adityanath said the VB-G-RAM-G Act would serve as a transformative step towards inclusive growth, asserting that the dream of a developed India could be realised only when every state and village progressed together.
