Was the misguided Indian missile a way to test the Pak defense system based on China’s HQ-9?

HQ-9 has a range of 120km – 250km. Yet the misguided missile from India managed to travel 124 km before crashing. Was this a test of Pakistan’s alertness or a test of whether HQ-9 was able to intercept a Supersonic missile?
