West Bengal Cabinet Expansion: 35 BJP Legislators Take Oath As Ministers

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday expanded his Council of Ministers, inducting 35 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs into the state Cabinet. The swearing-in ceremony was held at Lok Bhavan in Kolkata, where Governor RN Ravi administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new ministers.

With the latest expansion, the strength of the West Bengal government has increased to 41 ministers, including the chief minister, just three short of the constitutional limit of 44 ministers permitted for the state.

Major induction in BJP-led Bengal government

Among the prominent BJP leaders who took oath as Cabinet ministers were Arjun Singh, Tapas Roy, Saradwat Mukherjee, Jagannath Chattopadhyay and Shankar Ghosh.

Other legislators inducted into the Cabinet include Swapan Dasgupta, Dudh Kumar Mondal, Deepak Burman, Manoj Oraon and Gouri Shankar Ghosh.

In addition, BJP MLAs Rajesh Mahata, Indranil Khan and Malati Rava Roy were sworn in as Ministers of State (Independent Charge).

The Cabinet expansion marks a significant step in strengthening the BJP government’s administrative structure following its victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections.

Adhikari took oath as chief minister earlier this month

Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the Chief Minister of West Bengal on May 9 during a high-profile ceremony in Kolkata attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior BJP leaders and chief ministers from several NDA-ruled states.

Alongside Adhikari, senior BJP leaders Dilip Ghosh, Agnimitra Paul, Nisith Pramanik, Ashok Kirtania and Kshudiram Tudu had also taken oath as ministers during the formation of the new government.

The latest Cabinet expansion is expected to distribute key portfolios across regions and communities while strengthening governance in the BJP-ruled state.
