
Pathankot attack key conspirator Shahid Latif shot dead
On Wednesday, the mastermind behind the Pathankot attack and one of India’s most wanted terrorists, Shahid Latif was shot dead by unknown assailants in Pakistan‘s Sialkot.
Shahid Latif was the key conspirator of the Pathankot attack launched on January 2, 2016. He had coordinated the attack from Sialkot and sent down four JeM terrorists to Pathankot to execute the attack.
The Air Force Airbase in Pathankot came under attack by heavily armed terrorists on January 2, 2016. The gun battle, which lasted nearly four days, resulted in the death of seven security personnel and a civilian. Four attackers were also killed in the gunfight.
Shahid Latif was a key member of the banned terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM). Shahid Latif was facing charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in India and was listed as a terrorist by the Indian government.
Latif was also accused of the hijacking of an Indian Airlines plane in 1999.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe says Latif went back to the terrorist factory in Pakistan after his release in 2010.
