Nitin Gadkari warns CM Mann over law and order issue in Punjab
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has issued a stark warning to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, stating that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will cancel eight major road projects valued at Rs.14,288 crore if the state’s law and order situation does not improve.
In a formal letter addressed to Mann, Gadkari expressed serious concerns over the deteriorating law and order conditions in Punjab, which have led NHAI to reconsider its ongoing infrastructure investments.
According to Gadkari, three projects amounting to Rs.3,000 crore have already been cancelled, while an additional four projects, valued at Rs.4,000 crore, are currently under review for possible cancellation. The remaining projects, worth Rs.7,288 crore, face a similar fate if conditions do not improve promptly.
Gadkari also voiced serious concern about the persistent issues with land acquisition, which have further complicated the challenges for the NHAI.
He provided photographic evidence of recent attacks on project personnel to highlight the gravity of the situation and called for prompt action to address the threats and safeguard everyone involved.
The letter underscores the urgency for the Punjab government to address the security issues to prevent further financial setbacks and delays in critical infrastructure development.
