BJP youth leader Venkatesh Kurubara brutally attacked with maces near a hospital in Gangavathi
A local BJP Yuva Morcha leader, Venkatesh Kurubara, was brutally murdered in Gangavathi town of Karnataka’s Koppal district on Wednesday evening, police said.
The incident took place in front of Lilavati Elubhu Kilu Hospital on Koppal Road when Kurubara, 31, was returning from Devi Camp to Gangavathi. According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ram L. Arasiddi, a group of assailants followed and attacked him with long maces, killing him on the spot before fleeing the scene.
Police suspect that the murder could be linked to an old rivalry and a gambling-related dispute. “Preliminary investigation suggests personal enmity as a possible motive. We are verifying leads, and efforts are underway to identify and nab the culprits,” SP Arasiddi said.
Deputy SP Siddana Gowda Patil visited the crime scene and reviewed the investigation. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
Meanwhile, Karnataka BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra expressed shock and grief over Kurubara’s killing.
“The news of the tragic demise of Venkatesh, president of the Yuva Morcha in Gangavathi taluk, is heartbreaking. I extend my deepest condolences to his family. May his soul rest in peace, and may God give his loved ones the strength to bear this loss,” Vijayendra said in a statement.
Police have registered a case and initiated a probe into the murder.
