Robotic dog, missiles and tanks showcased in Jaipur’s public parade
The Indian Army’s K9 unit drew widespread attention at the 78th Army Day parade in Jaipur as trained dogs marched alongside their handlers, wearing camouflage coats and protective sunglasses. The visuals from the parade, held on Mahal Road in Jagatpura, quickly went viral, highlighting the Army’s increasing use of four-legged soldiers in modern warfare and security operations.
As part of the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, the Indian Army has inducted several indigenous dog breeds, including the Mudhol Hound, Rampur Hound, Chippiparai, Kombai and Rajapalayam, training them for roles such as explosive detection, surveillance and counterinsurgency. Officials said the dogs are equipped with protective eyewear to shield them from debris during high-risk operations, including grenade or blast-related situations.
This year’s Army Day parade marked the first time the event was held outside a military cantonment, with the public gathering in large numbers to witness the display of military strength. The parade featured advanced weapon systems such as BrahMos missiles, Pinaka multi-barrel rocket launchers, Bhishma and Arjun tanks, along with a robotic dog capable of operating in high-altitude and difficult terrain, reflecting the Army’s blend of tradition, technology and self-reliance.
