JeM commander aide dies in Bahawalpur amid spate of attacks

A senior operative linked to Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed has died under mysterious circumstances in Bahawalpur, adding to a recent string of targeted incidents involving extremist figures in the country.

The operative, identified as Salman, was reportedly killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle on Wednesday. He was considered a close aide of JeM founder Masood Azhar.

Pattern of attacks on terror operatives

Salman’s death comes days after a commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba, Sheikh Yousuf Afridi, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Afridi was regarded as a key figure within the group’s regional network and was closely associated with its leadership.

    Earlier attack on senior ideologue

In another incident earlier this month, Maulana Amir Hamza, a founding member and senior ideologue linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba, was targeted by gunmen while inside his vehicle on April 16.

Hamza survived the attack after being rushed to a hospital. He is widely seen as one of the most influential figures in shaping the group’s ideological and propaganda framework and has been closely associated with Hafiz Saeed.

    Rising uncertainty around security landscape

The recent incidents have sparked speculation over a possible pattern of targeted attacks against individuals linked to militant networks in Pakistan.

While authorities have not officially commented on the nature or linkage of these incidents, the back-to-back attacks have drawn attention to internal security dynamics and potential rivalries or external pressures.

    No official clarity yet

There has been no formal confirmation on whether the incidents are connected or part of a broader trend. Investigations are ongoing, and officials have yet to release detailed findings.
