In a successful joint operation conducted by the alert troops of the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police, four foreign terrorists were eliminated early Tuesday morning near Sindarah and Maidana villages in the Surankote area of Poonch district.

The security forces have also recovered four AK-47, two Pistols & other war-like stores from the encounter site.

This is the second major operation in the Poonch district in the last 48 hours. Two heavily armed infiltrators were neutralized in the Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch in the wee hours of Monday.

The Twitter handle of White Knight Corps in a tweet said, “In a major Cordon and Search Operation, acting on specific intelligence four terrorists were eliminated in a Joint Operation by #IndianArmy & @JKP near Sindarah and Maidana villages in tehsil #Surankote of #Poonch district. Along with the terrorists four AK-47, two Pistols & other war-like stores were also recovered. Elimination of these terrorists has avoided major terrorist-initiated incidents in the #Rajouri & #Poonch area. Search Operations are still in Progress”.

According to ground reports, a group of four terrorists were trapped in the thickly forested belt of Sindarah and Maidana areas of Surankote tehsil in Poonch district late Monday evening.

A cordon and search operation was launched in the area after specific inputs were received by the security personnel about the suspicious movement of terrorists in the upper reaches of Surankote tehsil.

The first contact was established late Monday evening. Intermittent firing continued during the night. The firefight resumed with the first light leading to a fierce exchange of fire from both sides.

“Based on specific intelligence, a joint cordon and search operation was launched in the general area of Sindarah & Maidana near Surankote tehsil, Poonch by troops of Indian Army, SOG, and JKP,” Army’s Jammu-based White Knight Corps said in a tweet.

It was yet to be confirmed whether the terrorists killed in the encounter were part of a freshly infiltrated group or were already camping in the upper reaches of Surankote.

Security personnel looking for identity proof of the killed terrorists

After recovering the dead bodies of the terrorists the security forces would be ascertaining their identities.

Terrorists involved in three major terror attacks this year including Dhangri and Keri in Rajouri district and Mendhar in Poonch have also remained untraced so far.

The frontier districts of Rajouri and Poonch have been witnessing a surge in incidents of terrorist violence.

On July 11, one terrorist was killed when Army troops foiled an infiltration in the Nowshera area along the LoC in Rajouri district.

An Indian Army soldier was injured in an exchange of fire while terrorists attempted to cross the Line of Control in the Poonch district on June 24.

Similarly, an infiltration bid was foiled along the LoC in Poonch and a large consignment of arms and ammunition was seized on June 16.

Three terrorists were killed when an infiltration bid was foiled in Poonch on May 31. On May 20, one terrorist was killed in Poonch when the Army foiled an intrusion bid.
